About Junction Micro Repair

A one-bench, appointment-only repair shop in The Junction, built on the idea that most "dead" electronics aren't.

The story

Junction Micro Repair started in 2017 the way a lot of Junction businesses start: with a workbench, a stubborn streak, and neighbours who kept knocking. Our founder, Dana M., spent years doing board-level rework, the microscope-and-hot-air kind, and got tired of watching people be told their laptop was "not worth fixing" when the actual fault was a two-dollar component and an hour of skilled work.

So the shop was set up around one rule: diagnose to the component, quote before touching anything, and tell the truth about what's worth fixing. Sometimes the truth is "this repair costs more than the device is worth". We say that too, and we say it before you've spent anything beyond the diagnostic fee.

We're still one bench, deliberately. Appointment-only isn't a limitation; it's how a small shop does careful work without a drawer full of forgotten phones.

The standards

  • ESD-safe bench, always. Grounded mats, wrist straps, ionizer. Static damage is invisible and permanent, so the discipline is non-negotiable.
  • Microscope-first diagnosis. Every board-level job is inspected under magnification before we form an opinion, let alone a quote.
  • Parts disclosed, every time. Original-pull, OEM-equivalent, or premium aftermarket: you're told which, and quoted options where they exist.
  • Your data treated as private. Locked-device workflow wherever possible, no browsing, locked storage off the bench. Details in the FAQ.
  • 90-day warranty in writing on parts and labour, every repair, no exceptions.

Why independent repair matters

When repair is only available from the manufacturer, the price of fixing a thing drifts toward the price of replacing it, and that isn't an accident. Independent shops keep repair honest: we compete on skill and price, we fix boards instead of swapping them, and we have no incentive to sell you a new device.

It's also just better for the neighbourhood. A phone repaired on Dundas West is money kept on Dundas West, and a device kept out of the e-waste stream. We support right to repair, meaning access to parts, schematics, and diagnostic tools for owners and independents, and we work that way at the bench every day.

We're an independent shop, full stop: not affiliated with, endorsed by, or authorized by any device manufacturer. We think that independence is exactly what you want in the person deciding whether your board is fixable.
